TRUSTING GOD TO DO A NEW THING

If you read my last blog, “I Am in Awe: When God Calls You to More Than You Imagined,” then you know I’m in a new season, one that’s requiring a deeper trust in God as I navigate the unknown. Writing and publishing Taking Jesus to School stretched me in ways I never imagined. Now, however, I am being stretched even further. How do we get this book into the hands of Christian educators across the country? That’s a whole new journey of faith—uncharted and unfamiliar.

Not to be overly dramatic, but I feel a bit like Abraham when God told him, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1). Just go. Leave everything. Trust Me for what’s next. If you know the story, you know that Abraham gave us a powerful example of faithful obedience. Sure, there were bumps and missteps, but he believed God would fulfill His promises. I want to be like Abraham—walking forward even when I don’t know exactly where I’m going.
Following God’s promptings can feel scary, especially when you don’t know what you’re doing or where it will lead. Honestly, I thought once the book was finished and published, I’d finally feel a sense of relief. Instead, I have found that the journey doesn’t end; it just shifts. With every turn comes a new invitation to surrender, a new opportunity to trust. Faith doesn’t necessarily get easier. It just grows deeper.
The faith journey is exciting and unnerving all at once. I’m learning not to fear it. I’m learning to lean in, and in that leaning, God has been so faithful. He has dropped little nuggets of encouragement right when I needed them most. Let me share one with you.
A few days ago, I woke up early, and in that quiet moment, I “heard” in my spirit, “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” A wave of emotion washed over me. I hadn’t thought of that verse in a long time, and honestly, I couldn’t even remember where it was in the Bible. However, I knew the Holy Spirit was speaking to me. I grabbed my Bible, searched for the verse, and here’s what I found in Isaiah 43:18–19 (AMP).
“Do not remember the former things,
Or ponder the things of the past.
Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?I
will even put a road in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah followed this in v. 21 by noting a powerful statement from our Lord.
“The people whom I formed for Myself will make known My praise.”

There in the stillness, coffee in hand and Bible open, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Our God is so personal. He knows us intimately. He speaks to us. He meets us right where we are.
I wrote the date next to that verse and made a decision. I’m choosing to agree with God. I’m choosing to leave the past behind and trust Him with what lies ahead. I may not know what the future looks like or where it leads, but that’s okay. What I know is I want to make His praise known. I want to share every road He paves in the wilderness and every stream He provides in the dry places.
There’s always purpose behind God’s calling on our lives. When He called Abraham to take a bold step of faith, it wasn’t just for Abraham’s blessing. It was so the whole world could be blessed through him (Genesis 12:2–3). Abraham’s obedience became the pathway for God's promises to be fulfilled, ultimately leading to Jesus.
“Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:14
“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.” Galatians 3:16
I know it’s only mid-July, and most educators are holding tightly to these last precious days of summer. Nevertheless, a new school year is coming fast! Whether you teach, lead, or support, God wants to bless you, and He wants to bless others through you. Will your faithful obedience point people to Jesus?
Each new year, each new season, is fertile ground for something new. I believe God is whispering to us today, just as He did through the prophet Isaiah.
“I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it?
I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands.” Isaiah 43:19
Out of a desire to equip and encourage educators, I wrote Taking Jesus to School: The Fruit of the Spirit on Display. The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—is the evidence of the Spirit’s work in us as we walk by faith in the unknown. These qualities set us apart from the world. They are the blessings that flow through us when we trust Him.
Sometimes our work environments feel like deserts. We all need support along the way. This book is a companion for the journey, a guide to help you grow, stay grounded, and point others to Jesus even in dry places. It’s practical, Biblical, and deeply personal. You don’t have to walk through your spiritual journey alone. Grab another Christian educator, or invite a group to gather. Read the book together. Work through the questions. Pray through the homework. Watch how God shows up to lead, guide, and pave the way.
Let’s trust Him for the new thing He’s about to do. Let’s take Jesus to school!
