Out of the Grave: Why Resurrection Hope Matters in Our Schools.

Do you ever get tired of all the negativity surrounding education? I know I do. It can be exhausting trying to block out the noise. Even those with good intentions often default to what’s wrong—discipline issues, poor leadership, overemphasis on testing, lack of motivation, uninvolved parents. The list goes on and on.

As Christians serving in education, how do we navigate all of this without letting it control our thoughts and shape our perspectives? The challenges are real. Ignoring them doesn’t serve anyone. However, wallowing in negativity does something dangerous. It steals our joy and often results in spiritual amnesia.
We forget that God is still in control.
We lose sight of hope beyond our circumstances.
We forget we are not alone.
We are weak instead of strong.
Living in this tension is part of our journey, whether we serve students in classrooms, hallways, buses, offices, cafeterias, or from behind the scenes. The question isn’t whether tension will exist. The bigger question is this: How will we navigate it? Will we embrace the tension, or will we allow it to keep us in the “grave?”
With Easter just around the corner, we turn our hearts toward the resurrection of Christ. We live in a fallen world with a very real enemy who would love nothing more than for us to remain buried—in negativity, in discouragement, and in frustration. The prince of this world wants man to live in the flesh instead of in the power of the resurrection. As long as we are here, we have a living hope, all because of the resurrection. For those who believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, these truths remain.
We were LOST...
“It’s your sins that have cut you off from God…” Isaiah 59:2
but now we are FOUND
“For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:10
We were ENSLAVED…
“Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? …” Romans 6:16
but now we are FREE.
“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight…” Romans 3:24
We were WEAK…
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
but now we are STRONG.
“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” Isaiah 40:29
We were GUILTY…
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
but now we are INNOCENT.
“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16–17
We were DEAD…
“…they were destined to die like all people…” 1 Peter 4:6
but now we are ALIVE.
“He is the God of the living, not the dead…” Luke 20:38
These truths lie at the heart of what it means to live in the hope of the resurrection. This is the true joy of Easter, and it is something we must choose each day. Jesus did not shed His precious blood so we could stay in the grave of discouragement. Yes, there will be tension. Yes, negativity will rear its head. However, the resurrection gives us victory over anything and everything the enemy, our flesh, or the world tries to throw at us. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is the power at work within us, and it should be evident in the lives of those who serve in schools.
When a meeting feels heavy, we are not powerless. We are strong in Him.
When criticism stings, we are not defined by it. We are found and secure in Christ.
When the needs feel overwhelming, we are not enslaved to fear. We are free to respond in faith.
When exhaustion creeps in, we are not running on empty. We serve a living Savior.

The power of the resurrection should change how we walk into our schools each day. It should change how we interact with students and colleagues. It should change how we respond to negativity in meetings, hallways, offices, buses, and break rooms. It should change the atmosphere we carry wherever God has placed us.
We don’t deny the tension. We don’t pretend everything is perfect, but we refuse to live as though the stone is still in place. If you find yourself weary, step out of the grave. Let the tension remind you that resurrection power is real and active. Choose hope. Choose joy. Choose to live as someone who knows how the story ends.
If you are already walking daily in that hope, praise God. Thank Him for the grace He has poured out on your life, and then share it. Our schools desperately need men and women who are not ashamed of the Good News.
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16
This news is too good to keep to ourselves! Happy Easter!
